(Right Country) – The right to vote in meaningful elections is one of the fundamental rights of Americans. When we go to the ballot box we have a reasonable expectation that our vote is going to count and though it is but one vote it’s our vote and we have the right to give it to whomever we so chose.
All that appears to be changing in 2020. Americans are up against election tampering and fraud on a scale the United States has never seen before. In the upcoming presidential election the country is literally on the line and each of our votes matter but now must compete with outside influences, both foreign and domestic, that run the risk of compromises our entire Democracy.
For President Trump to win this election he has to win by so much that it blows not only Joe Biden legitimately out of the water but also all of the fraud, cheating, rigging, and tampering in Biden’s name.
Mail-in voting has proven to be a debacle thus far and extremely vulnerable to fraud and tampering. The Democrats, of course, deny this because, well, they are the ones doing the tampering and the rigging. It seems almost weekly that another plot to foil the election comes to light and they all have one thing in common: if successful they benefit Joe Biden.
Domestic mail-in voting rigging isn’t the only obstacle Americans are up against in the coming election. With all of the advancements in technology it is only natural that foreign entities would use that to gain access to our elections. Instead of casting a physical ballot, most of the country now casts virtual ones and most voter information is stored virtually.
Foreign hackers are most definitely not sitting out America’s 2020 presidential election and this has just been confirmed by the FBI and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
According to Fox News, the two agencies have issued a joint alert saying as much with CISA adding that in some cases there was unauthorized access to election support systems, such as voter registration and auditing programs.
The Department of Homeland Security agency stated that there is no evidence to suggest that the integrity of elections data has been compromised and that “it does not appear these targets are being selected because of their proximity to elections information.” So, they just so happened to hack into elections-related programs but the hackers are somehow not interested specifically in that information. In 2020, that seems highly unlikely.
CISA did say that while the integrity of the elections data has not been compromised the data itself may have been but the agency said that “there are steps that election officials, their supporting … IT staff, and vendors can take to help defend against this malicious cyber activity.”
Fox News reported:
Hackers got access via a combination of vulnerabilities – what CISA calls “vulnerability chaining.” It is a commonly used tactic and in this case targeted federal and state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) government networks, critical infrastructure, and elections organizations.
The hackers targeted a Virtual Private Network (VPN) vulnerability and a flaw in Netlogon, a Windows protocol to authenticate users.
Tenable, a cybersecurity company, said in a statement that, “Patches are available for all of the vulnerabilities referenced in the joint cybersecurity advisory from CISA and the FBI,” adding, “Most of the vulnerabilities had patches available for them following their disclosure.”
The alert did not specify who exactly the bad actors were but did use the term “advanced persistent threat (APT) actors” which, Fox News notes, is a term usually reserved for “state-sponsored hacking,” in other words, foreign entities.
In September, Microsoft said that it had detected Russian, Iranian, and Chinese actors attempting to target and interfere with the 2020 United States presidential election.
“The activity we are announcing today makes clear that foreign activity groups have stepped up their efforts targeting the 2020 election as had been anticipated, and is consistent with what the U.S. government and others have reported,” Microsoft said.
One thing is for sure, this election is sure to be a wild ride.
