(Right Country) – Progressive liberals have managed to take over every aspect of American culture and society. Companies that “go woke, go broke” but that isn’t stopping Corporate America from jumping on the “woke” wagon and embracing social justice programs and initiatives that ultimately only alienate massive swaths of their consumer base.
Nowhere has this been more obvious than within the professional sports realm. Despite the fact that prior to 2020 major sport, for the most part, made it a point to stay out of social movements and politics.
2020 was the year that changed everything, however, and the professional sports leagues of America seemingly joined together and decided it was time to embrace social justice and “diversity equity inclusion” no matter what their fans think or feel about it.
Who would have thought that NASCAR would ever become a “woke” enterprise? NASCAR’s fans are traditionally white, southern, and conservative but no matter, NASCAR is hell-bent on pushing the radical left’s agenda down their throats anyway.
NASCAR President Steve Phelps said that NASCAR is moving full steam ahead with their commitment to social justice and “diversity equity inclusion.”
He’s also claiming that NASCAR fans “overwhelmingly” support it. Phelps cited a study of 1,750 self-described “avid NASCAR fans” in affirming his stance that the fans are behind his decision to move the company in the direction of social “wokeness.”
“It was a moment in time back in June that seemed, for us, it was the right time to act. I think it was the right time for our country. I think it was the right time for our sport. The response to that was fantastic. What we do in the areas of social justice and diversity equity inclusion is going to be authentic to who we are. May not be the right thing for the NBA, but it’s going to be the right thing for us,” he explained.
Last summer during the month of June, right after the death of George Floyd, NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace emerged as the Colin Kaepernick-like social justice warrior of NASCAR.
After the supposed “noose” in Wallace’s garage was found out by the FBI to have been a garage door pull, Wallace pushed forward with demanding that NASCAR become a more woke, inclusive place.
Wallace called for the banning of the Confederate flag from races which NASCAR promptly implemented.
“The presence of the confederate flag at NASCAR events runs contrary to our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all fans, our competitors and our industry,” NASCAR said in a statement.
While fans may be feeling disenfranchised from NASCAR, Bubba Wallace has become a corporate darling. This is the first year in which his racecar is fully sponsored.
His sponsors include DoorDash, Columbia Sportswear, Root Insurance, McDonalds, and Dr. Pepper. The first three reportedly decided to sponsor Wallace “because of his activism first, racing second.”
It was clearly not because of his winning record.
NASCAR, along with other major sports leagues in the US, is doing a great job pushing the woke radical left’s agenda while alienating their loyal fan bases. There are no leagues safe from the social justice movement and professional sports are not better for it.
